Plain-language summary
We examined whether patients newly diagnosed with fungal nail infections received different care depending on whether their appointment was in person or via telemedicine. We found that those seen through telemedicine were prescribed antifungal medications less often than those who had traditional in-person visits. This difference could mean that some patients treated remotely may not receive timely or appropriate treatment for their infection, potentially leading to worse outcomes. Our findings highlight the need to ensure that virtual care for common skin conditions matches the quality of face-to-face appointments.
